KOSHIKI - THE HARD CONTACT MARTIAL ARTS COMPETITION SYSTEM
USING PROTECTIVE HEAD AND BODY EQUIPMENT

Two fighters with the protective gear on.Koshiki as a tournament system commenced in Australia around 1980 and at that time was based on ideas which evolved from a desire by many eminent Martial Art Teachers throughout the world to test techniques in realistic situations without the risk of serious injury. The early years were slow in development as is the case with most new ideas introduced into an area heavy in tradition. It has now expanded and encompasses all styles of Martial Arts under one competition system.

The Koshiki system involves the wearing of equipment for the body and head as a means of protecting the target and not the weapons (hands/feet). The most important person at a Koshiki competition is the player on the matt. Strict rules and increasing efficiency in education of referees, coaches, and officials, is ensuring quality of competition, with both excitement for spectators and safety for contestants.

The Australian Koshiki Association has many different style members including but not limited to, Karate, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Jujitsu and many other Martial Arts Free Stylists. Membership is available to any legitimate Martial Arts style that meets and adheres to the criteria of the Constitution and Rules of Association which are designed to encourage participation. The Association has developed a clearly defined set of competition rules, with slight modifications, by the International Koshiki Federation.

Male and female exponents are catered for (fighting, forms and demonstrations) with a strong emphasis on the development of juniors as an investment in the future of Koshiki and our Nation. National and International development initiated by Australia has been very significant in recent years with exceptional results. Financial and organizational assistance from the National body has enhanced progress and free of charge seminars are frequently conducted for prospective members.

The unique nature of the Koshiki system requires specific coaching and ongoing training of competitors. The standard of Coaching and refereeing are continually monitored and upgraded with maintenance of qualifications clearly defined. Education in these areas is of high priority. Guided by the Constitution, Rules of Association and Code of Ethics and operating in a truly democratic manner, The Australian Koshiki Association is a widely accepted and popular organization.
